What is Microdermabrasion? Microdermabrasion is a process that deeply exfoliates, polishes, and increases the lymphatic
drainage of skin. It uses a gentle vacuum to bring your skin in contact with a diamond coated head that gently abrades the top layer of dead skin. It can be used in the treatment of sunspots, pigmentation, acne (it is particularly good for comedonal acne/blackheads), acne scarring, fine lines, pores, and dull skin. It is most commonly used on the face, but can be used on the neck, back, and hands.
When should I use Microdermabrasion?
- Hyperkeratosis
- Skin aging
- Atrophic skin
- Damaged skin by the sun
- Small wrinkles
- Fine lines
- Acne enlarged pores
- Rough uneven textured skin
- Hyper pigmentation
- Post acne and hypertrophic scar removal and superficial tattoo removal
- Pre-laser and post facelift
What is involved in the treatment?
Generally, a session of microdermabrasion of the face takes approximately 60 minutes. It is not painful and it may feel like you are having a facial. After microdermabrasion, your skin may appear red and this usually persists for a short time only. You will notice that your skin feels soft and smooth afterwards.
We recommend 6 sessions at fortnightly intervals to achieve the best results. More sessions are generally required for acne scarring. Ultimately, the number and frequence of microdermabrasion will depend on the skin type of the patient was well as their needs. The results of microdermabrasion for acne scarring are not as dramatic as those achieved from other techniques such as plasma skin regeneration, skin needling, or laser resurfacing.
